The 2011 Spring Gala

Funds raised: $38,331

The Spring Gala is the Foundation’s signature event and is always sold out early. A gourmet meal and auction with thousands of dollars of artwork, unique treasures made by local artisans and other interesting items auctioned by Blain Henshaw made this a great night out.

The 20th Annual Spring Gala in support of the Twin Oaks/Birches Health Care Charitable Foundation was a huge success raising $38,331 during the course of the evening. As usual, it was a sold out event with approximately 140 people in attendance.

We were fortunate to be the first event to use the newly renovated and very lovely Petpeswick Yacht Club. The volunteers of the PYC worked tirelessly all winter to have it ready for in time for the Gala.

Our wonderful meal of “Parmesan Scalloped Potato, Acorn Squash, and Spinach & Feta Stuffed Chicken” prepared by Chef Ray Bear, was outstanding and certainly one of the highlights of the evening.

Approximately 85 items made up the silent and live auction, and once again it was our pleasure to have Blain Henshaw as our Auctioneer.

A special thank-you to the Cadets.

The Foundation was very pleased to have the assistance of the 2471 Musquodoboit Harbour Royal Canadian Army Cadet Corps this year. The Cadets greeted guests, showed them to their tables, served the meal as well as worked the floor during the live auction. We were very fortunate to have them join us this year.

Another highlight of the evening was a brief DVD presentation that resulted in our very generous Gala guests contributing over $6,000 for a private Palliative Care room at the Birches. This room will be used and appreciated by our residents and families of the Birches.

The exciting finale of the evening was determining the winner of the $1,500 Diamond Ring compliments of Charm Diamond Centres. During the evening 99 keys were sold to the treasure chest. The winning key, that one opened the chest, was purchased by Ena Rowlings! Ena won a 14kt white gold, 1 carat two diamond ring valued at $1,500 compliments of Charm Diamond Centres. Lucky lady!!!
